4-vehicle crash caused delay on Route 40

Maryland

According to Maryland state police, around 7:55 a.m, troopers responded to the accident on Route 40 in the area of Cool Hollow Road.

Police say a truck slowed to traffic east on Route 40, when a truck behind it rear-ended it, pushing it forward and into Route 40 West.

This caused the truck to hit a Saturn head-on, driven by Hazel Pearce, 35.
Another truck driven by Betty Jean Wells, 37, hit the rear of the Saturn.

She was trapped inside her car and needed to be extricated. She was then taken to Meritus Medical Center.

No one else was hurt, but traffic was tied up for about an hour and a half.
