Monday, the Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission gave the green light to eight companies that will now be able to start growing medical marijuana.
One of those companies is Green Leaf Medical, LLC.
Green Leaf officials said they spent the past year building its growing center which is surrounded by a barbed wire fence and guarded with cameras and armed guards.
In about 13 weeks, they’ll be able to supply 21 different strains of marijuana.
“Really, this was the final hoop, and it was a big one. We had state inspection that lasted about three hours. The inspectors came out, and they toured our entire facility. They reviewed our standard operating procedures,” said Phil Goldberg, CEO, Green Leaf.
Officials said, at max capacity, Green Leaf will produce 850 pounds of marijuana per month.
