Manna Food is taking their services on the road in Montgomery County, unveiling their newest addition to the team — Manny the Bus!
Manny will serve two purposes; first, getting meals to neighborhoods with limited food access, and second, teaching kids about healthy cooking.
Six hundred people had the chance to tour the bus last weekend in Silver Spring, but Manny’s first official run will be in October.
Manna Food’s CEO said Germantown and Long Branch will be some of the first communities on Manny’s list; they have higher rates of hunger.
“We just need to make sure that of the 70,000 of our neighbors who are not always sure where their next meal is coming from, they have access to good food,” Jackie DeCarlo said. “Being more mobile helps us do that, and the pop-up pantry function will enable us to be really nimble.”
You can’t miss Manny on the road; the bus is covered with bright pictures and the words “delicious” and “food” in the ten most-spoken languages in the county.
