Long-awaited bypass opens in Washington County

News

Washington County’s Southern Boulevard is officially open to traffic as of 3 p.m. on Tuesday.

Work on the road, unofficially known as the ‘Funkstown bypass,’ began in 2016. It serves as a cut-through between East Oak Ridge Drive and Frederick Street.

The project cost about  $7 million, with a portion of the funding coming from the State of Maryland Department of Transportation.
