JEFFERSON, Md. (WDVM) — A pedestrian in a motorized wheelchair was hit and killed in Jefferson on Thursday afternoon.

Police said that they received the call around 2:46 p.m. for a single-vehicle crash involving a pedestrian around the 3390 block of Point of Rocks Road.

Steven Hartle of Frederick, Maryland, was driving his Nissan westbound on Point of Rocks Road. As he went over a hill, the pedestrian — Clyde Plymale — was in his motorized wheelchair in the road.

Police said that Hartle’s car hit Plymale before coming to a stop. The impact caused Plymale to fall from his wheelchair, and he died on the scene due to his injuries.

The road was shut down for several hours during the investigation. A reconstructionist and the Frederick County States Attorney’s Office helped with the investigation.
