Legacy Christian Academy, a private Christian school in Stephens City, is adding a new gym for its student body.
The project is expected to cost $1.2 million.
Legacy Christian Academy Superintendent Robert Quinn said that the project has been in the works for a while.
“We have been planning this year for years,” Quinn said. “But we had to wait until we grew into being able to afford a gym.”
The school has only been open for four years now. Without an on-site gym, students are using school-issued vans to utilize other gyms for physical education classes as well as for afterschool, sports-related activities.
Officials said that expansion will come in three phases with the new gymnasium being phase one. Between phase two and three, 12 classrooms will be added.
The gym will also be opened to the community.
The school also received its full accreditation in June.
