It’s officially the last day to file your taxes or apply for an extension.
Tax day is usually April 15, but this year it was pushed to April 18 because of Emancipation Day, a holiday that closed city offices in D.C.
Some post offices have extended hours Monday, including Frederick which will be open until 6 p.m. and Baltimore which will be open until 7 p.m.
Post offices prepare for Tax Day in advance, knowing that many people wait until the last possible minute.
“We ordinarily have additional staff in order to be able to accommodate larger volumes of customers coming in, in order to be able to file their taxes,” said Jim Adams, Thurmont Post Office postmaster.
The IRS estimates that more than 150 million tax returns will be filed this year.
