Junior High student will graduate with five associate degrees

A local 16-year-old high school student has graduated with his first associate’s degree from Hagerstown Community College. That’s just the beginning for this bright young man.

Shiv Patel is reaching heights in ways many his age haven’t had the chance to. Aside from his love of soccer, he can add to his incredible list of accomplishments an associate degree in science., engineering, mathematics, physics and general studies by the time he graduates in June of this year. Patel was in ninth grade when he enrolled in the community college’s STEMM Technical Middle College program. He says his biggest motivation are his parents. He has this message for students.

“I’m like realistic about things so I always try and push myself and it’s always good to reflect back on what you’ve done and where you’re at and what you need to do,” said Shiv Patel.

Patel also works as a peer tutor in the community college’s learning support center. He is working towards being an aerospace engineer for a company like NASA or SpaceX.
