Urbana High School named Maryland Blue Ribbon School


A public school in Frederick County, Maryland is being recognized as a Maryland Blue Ribbon School.

Urbana High School was one of six schools selected Tuesday. The Blue Ribbon Award honors schools where students achieve at high-performing levels.

State officials said the school’s core four values: respect, unity, integrity, and pride are demonstrated in all aspects.

The Superintendent of Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS), Dr. Theresa Alban, the Board of Education President, Brad Young, and Principal of Urbana High School, David Kehne, were present for the award in Annapolis.

“This is a very prestigious recognition for our schools,” said Michael Doerrer, Director and communications, FCPS. It recognizes not only academic achievements, but community engagement, closing achievement gaps for students. So, it is an amazing honor for Urbana High School and we are extremely proud of our teachers, students, and our families there.”

Urbana High School is the only high school winner in the state of Maryland.
