Town of Emmitsburg works toward sustainability for future generations

The town of Emmitsburg, Md., is working towards sustainability and officials are participating in International Compost Awareness Week.

The town believes in creating a future for the younger generations in Emmitsburg. Officials said that composting is one way to help community members recycle and help with those who have a green thumb and are into gardening. During this week, residents do have an opportunity to purchase a composting bin.

“Emitsburg is really looking towards the future and we want to make sure that what we are doing around town that allies with sustainability. So, we look forward to partnering with our community,” said the town clerk for the town, Madeline Shaw.

Officials with the town are planning on doing a kick-off event to allow community members to learn more about composting and the benefits.

The town of Emmitsburg is just one of many towns who are participating in the national campaign with Frederick County, Md.
