Eleven students were transported to a local hospital in Frederick after a school bus accident Tuesday.
A school bus carrying 42 students on their way to Governor Thomas Johnson Middle School was struck by a vehicle shortly after 8 a.m. at the intersection of Schifferstadt Boulevard and East 16th street.
Officials say the students who were transferred to Frederick Memorial Hospital only suffered minor injuries.
The bus was struck on the rear passenger side after a car failed to follow street signs, officials say.
“The sedan was at the stop sign and failed to stop at the stop sign and yield, giving the right of way to the bus. They were cited for failure to yield to a right of way when making a left turn, which is ultimately what caused the crash,” explained spokesperson for the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, Taylor Clarke.
The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating the accident.
