Rockville small businesses get financial boost

The Rockville City Council has approved a substantial financial boost to its struggling local economy.

The council approved $430,000 to be put towards a financial relief and economic development plan

The Rockville Small Business Fund will officially activate in 2019 to attract new employers to the area, especially the Rockville Town Center.

An additional $2 million will be further distributed over the next five years to help the city’s economy, which has recently lost several high profile businesses.

“It is obviously dependent upon additional appropriation by future mayor and councils,” said Mayor Newton. “We are the county seat and it is important to us to have a place that people can come and gather and shop eat and recreate.”

Rockville leaders will meet again in January to discuss further steps in their ongoing town center revitalization plan.
