The Frederick Literacy Council has teamed up with the non profit blessings in a backpack, to bring the Ready for Summer Book Campaign to the area.
Laurie Fischer, the director for the Frederick Literacy Council said, “We are trying to combat that summer slide, where children are at home for the summer and are needing books to help to encourage them to read more.”
There’s a tub at the Frederick Literacy Council where people can drop off book donations for children. The books requested are specific titles that Fischer and her team put together to ensure Pre-K, Kindergarten and first-grade children are getting the most out of what they read.
The projects’s goal is to have 1,000 books donated and to give one book in a backpack for each child. This will then be distributed to the kids after May 12.
