Police still investigating series of ATM robberies

Montgomery County Police are investigating a series of ATM robberies in Silver Spring.

Thursday morning two suspects entered the 7-11 store on the 12000 block of Tech Road and forced store employees to lay down on the floor.  Police say a third suspect then rammed a pick-up truck through the front of the store, loaded the ATM onto the truck, then drove off.

Police say just days ago a similar robbery happened just miles away on the 15500 block of New Hampshire Avenue. None of the store employees were injured during the incidents. The suspects in both robberies were dressed in black hoodies and had their faces covered.

“Actually it was very surprising because I’ve never known anything like that to happen in this area. A robbery here is quite a surprise,” said Thomas Smithey, a resident nearby.

Police say the incidents are similar to a number of other ATM robberies in the DMV area.
