Planning Commission rejects rezoning request for solar energy project

The Frederick County, Maryland Planning Commission has rejected a request to re-zone an area of land that could have made space for a solar energy project.

The planning commission held a meeting Wednesday and on the agenda was a zoning map amendment for the Whitemore-Biggs Ford Solar Center requesting about 150 acres of land be re-designated from agricultural to a Solar Facility Commercial District.

The commission voted unanimously, 7-0, to deny the request, citing the land is comprised of prime farmland soils and that the project is inconsistent with the county’s comprehensive plan.
