MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (WDVM) — Fire and Rescue officials say a pedestrian was struck and killed by a tractor trailer on the northbound express lanes of I-270 just before I-370.

The victim is identified by police as Jerasimos Ray Blanton, 33, of Rockville, who is believed to be the driver of a Ford Explorer found at the scene, just north of Shady Grove Road.

Police believe Blanton was trying to change a deflated tire on his Ford Explorer when for unknown reasons, he attempted to cross the northbound lanes of I-270 and was struck by the Freightliner truck around 5:30 a.m. Friday.

Emergency medical service personnel declared Blanton dead at the scene prior to being transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for autopsy.

The driver of the flatbed truck remained on the scene and is cooperating with investigators, according to police. He was uninjured during the incident.
