The cost of parking may increase for drivers in Montgomery County.
Officials are proposing an increase on pricing during certain hours of the day in Silver Spring and Bethesda. Costs could be as high as $4 – there would be higher prices on certain on-street parking areas.
The hike in pricing on some streets will also reduce the rates on other streets. The transportation director for the Montgomery County Department of Transportation says the hikes are needed to help with security and other improvements.
“The idea is to have 10% parking availability on the street. This is the latest in the parking industry for making parking available for businesses” said Al Roshdieh, Montgomery County Department of Transportation director.
The council is also reviewing the operating budget for transportation in the county executive’s recommended budget adjustments.
