New Urbana YMCA site plans gain initial approval

A new YMCA location is coming to Frederick County, Maryland, after receiving initial approval.

Site plans for an 85,000-square-foot facility in the Urbana area were approved by the Frederick County Planning Commission at the end of February.

Those plans include space for an aquatic center, exercise studios, community rooms and more.

The facility will be located between the Urbana High School and middle school, with the hope of attracting members of the growing community.

“We’re going to have a lot of spaces within the facility that are going to be very flexible. So during the day, it might serve active, older adults, and in the afternoon, it might transform into a teen center,” explained CEO for the YMCA of Frederick County, Chris Colville.

The facility comes with an estimated $20 million price tag.
