In his very first speech as county executive, Elrich touched on the policies that will guide his administration, starting with the deep racial divides that can still be seen in education, housing and health care.
“People have waited long enough,” said Elrich. “We are 153 years past the end of the civil war and we can’t come to terms with this. Shame on us.”
He also talked about how policies of over regulation have slowed down the local economy.
Regarding transportation and the environment, the new county executive had a simple but stern message for the governor.
“We are going to explore creative, common sense ways to address green house gas emissions at the local level and note to the governor, no beltway widening,” said Elrich.
On the council, new appointees included Gabe Albornoz, Evan glass, Will Jawando and Andrew Friedson who will represent District 1.
Incumbent members who were sworn in following re-election include Tom Hucker, Sidney Katz, Nancy Navarro, Craig Rice and Hans Riemer.
