BETHESDA, Md. - Suicide is a difficult topic to discuss - that’s why every-mind, a mental health organization in Montgomery County, hosted a panel discussion along with other local mental health agencies.
Nearly 200 people were at the discussion at the Bethesda Landmark Theater.
Officials also showed a documentary called The "S" Word that aims to shed light on mental health and suicide awareness.
The documentary shared many stories of those who tried to commit suicide. Every mind organizers say they work to remain a valuable resource for those facing mental health illnesses in the community.
"We did team up with our local hospitals and really our main reason was to bring more awareness and also to let the community come to a safe space to talk about it and to learn more about it" said Jennifer Grinnell, EveryMind Division Director for Adult & Community services.
Officials also say they believe the recent deaths of celebrities Kate Spade and Anthony Bourdain could have inspired some to open up about suicide.
