Montgomery County leaders work on initiative to help local businesses

Montgomery County leaders are working on a grassroots campaign initiative to help local businesses grow.

County Executive, Marc Elrich, and Council Vice-President, Sidney Katz, kicked off the county’s first listening session to find better ways to help businesses strive.

There will be a series of six listening sessions with the business community and other stakeholders around the county.  Business owners brought up the county’s regulatory climate, permitting process, licensing, inspections and other issues.

Julie Verratti, Founder of Denizens Brewing Co., said: “Sometimes there’s a lack of empathy because there is a lack of understanding of what it is to be a business owner day-to-day. I think this is a step in the right direction to show empathy and to show the willingness to try to understand.”

Officials are hoping to attract more businesses to the county with this initiative.
