A room full of government officials and lead experts clapped as Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich signed a lead bill into law.

This bill had been passed unanimously by the Montgomery County Council after local schools showed a higher than normal water lead level in August 2018.

Councilman Tom Hucker, who sponsored the bill, says there are 5 parts per billion limit of lead in water. Hucker explained this as his son sat in the background and listened in.

Council member Hucker added that he is relieved his own son and other children will be able to drink out of school fountains safer than they could before.

Elrich commented that 0 lead in water would be the ideal situation but for now, he is really happy to sign this bill into law.
