A child with autism was found and rescued by Montgomery County Police after wandering away from home. Police say if they had not started searching for the child immediately this may have ended tragically.

Monday, the unidentified 8-year-old went missing around 3 p.m. from his home on the 19500 block of Worsham Court in Gaithersburg.  Police say the parents were “proactively watching the child” but when they noticed the child had left home, they immediately called police.

A search party, including K-9’s, eventually found the child a half hour later sitting in the shallow part of a lake behind Club House Road. The child was wet and cold but physically fine.
