A swearing in ceremony for the Frederick County, Maryland State’s Attorney Charlie Smith was held on Monday making this his fourth term.
Smith was sworn in with his wife, and family by his side as well as staff who work for the State’s Attorney’s Office. Smith says his main initiatives include insuring public safety, and the implementation of a Mental Health Court.
“We see it each and everyday in every case that we prosecute, somebody has a mental health issue which really is prevalent — more than people realize so we do have an alternative court called the drug court which has been very successful. We’re hoping to implement a Mental Health Court which will be equally successful,” said Frederick County State’s Attorney, Charlie Smith.
Officials say Smith is the first Frederick County State’s Attorney to have four terms.
