The MARC rail community’s sector plan to develop transit stations was approved by the Montgomery County Council unanimously.
The plan will allow officials to start improving the transit stations in Boyds and Germantown. The council discussed safety measures for pedestrians and cyclists as more people make use of those areas.
Officials are planning to add commercial and retail stores near the stations while also preserving the historic designs.
The plan is in the works to increase ridership among those who live along the I-270 corridor as well. Montgomery County Councilmember, Craig Rice, stated: “This is going to be one in which we can actually encourage more riders to use this service, and therefore get more cars off the road.”
Construction for the project has already started.
