Montgomery County Police are calling the attack of a man wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat a “bias crime.”

MCPD arrested two suspects, Jovan Crawford and Scott Roberson, for attacking the victim wearing the MAGA hat in Germantown.

Police were called to the 18000 block of Cottage Garden Drive off Great Seneca Highway. The victim, who was wearing a red “Make America Great Again” hat, was approached and harassed by the suspects who asked the victim why he was wearing the MAGA hat, according to police.

Police said the victim told the suspects that he was entitled to his own views and continued walking away; that’s when the suspects began striking the victim and telling him to take the hat off.

The two were arrested a short while later after trying to blend into a kids baseball game.

Montgomery County Police Captain, Tom Jordan, said: “This is a violent criminal action – when you’re talking about a robbery and assault – which has bias to it, and the bias is based off the political affiliation.”

Both Crawford and Roberson are being charged with robbery and 2nd-degree assault.
