About 1,000 turkey bags were given away at the Thanksgiving Meal giveaway in Frederick on Tuesday.
One Frederick resident, Paul Lawson, stood in line since 8 a.m. at the Keys Stadium parking lot to get a bag.
“It helps out a lot when you don’t have that much money, and you’re on social security and disability,” said Lawson.
A long line this morning proved that he wasn’t the only one who appreciated the extra help.
“It”s going to help me a lot… because I have a pretty big family, and plus the money we don’t have, we can still get what we’re supposed to get,” said Frederick resident Willis Smith.
Officials with the Frederick Community Action Agency say this took a joint effort of volunteers from some organizations, and companies throughout the community. Wegmans donated a truck load of food.
“So, we’ve got a nice size turkey, and we’ve got mash potatoes, rolls, we have vegetables, corn… Sometimes we have peas or green beans, depends on whatever we get that year. We also have stuffing, so the families will have a fully rounded dinner,” said Frederick Community Action Agency Board Member, Diane Fink.
