Following the death of House Speaker Busch, discussions turn into who the next speaker will be

Following the death of House Speaker, Michael Busch, members of the House of Delegates now have to decide who will take his position.

The discussion was among Delegates on Monday on the final day of the General Assembly.

Baltimore County Delegate, Adrienne Jones (D), had been presiding over the house into Busch’s illness.

Senate Speaker, Mike Miller, told reporters, he imagines that Delegates in the House are already talking about who should be the next speaker.

“There are people who…it is very quick…you put somebody…somebody passes and then other people want to pick up the puzzle and be the speaker,” said Miller. “I am sure, as we are standing here in right now there are people in the house counting votes trying to move forward who the next speaker of the house is going to be.”

Busch will lie in state in the rotunda of the Maryland State House on Monday, April 15.
