Female entrepreneurs shine at awards luncheon

On Wednesday, the hard won achievements of Montgomery County’s female entrepreneurs were honored during the 3rd Annual Maryland Women’s Business Center Awards Luncheon.

October is National Women’s Small Business Month, highlighting female employers whose work has helped keep Maryland’s economy running smoothly.

Awards were given out for categories like entrepreneur of the year and best new business.

The county’s unique diversity makes it especially well suited to include women in the market place but business leaders said their numbers can be improved as they prepare for 2019.

“There is still so much out there,” said Women Business Owners of Montgomery County member Laura Rhode. “We need to do a better job. The county as a whole needs to do a better job of really advertising and letting people know what the available jobs and projects are for women business owners and small businesses in general.”

On average, female employees working full time in Maryland earn $49,500 a year, which ranks second highest in the nation.
