Expect overnight lane closures on I-270 as MDOT SHA shift lanes to newly constructed bridge

On Wednesday at 10 p.m., the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration (MDOT SHA) will shift the lanes on Interstate 270 at Buckeystown Pike to the newly constructed bridge.

MDOT SHA officials said the shift should be complete by 5 a.m. on Thursday, May 9th, 2019.

Once completed, contractors will begin to demolish the old bridges.

The new bridge will be wider and that should increase safety and reduce congestion.

With the shift, MDOT SHA will re-open the southbound ramp to northbound MD 85 to Buckeystown Pike. The ramp has been closed for the past few weeks.

“Overnight travels on the southbound side can expect some lane closures there,” said Charlie Gischlar, spokesperson, MDOT SHA. “Two-lane section highway will be single lane closures leading with only way lane getting by.”

For commuters traveling overnight, they suggest using MD 355 as an alternative route.
