Economic team releases fiscal report

The Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation has officially released its’ fiscal statistics from the previous fiscal year to the public.

According to the group’s report last year saw nearly $400 million brought to the county through capital investment.

The report added job growth was partly fueled by Marriott international’s groundbreaking of its’ new downtown Bethesda HQ.

Development and interest in the area has also been fueled by speculation that Montgomery County could possibly become the site for Amazon’s new headquarters

“The fact that a coffee house is expanding or a restaurant is expanding and opening new locations, other things like that doesn’t get a lot of coverage but it is the backbone of our economy,” said Montgomery County Councilmember Tom Hucker. “With 900 new jobs created, many of them were in life sciences and bio tech and other high wage industries which is exactly the type of jobs we really want to make sure we are creating.”

The timeline of the report covers Montgomery counties economic health and movements from October 1, 2017 to September 30, 2018.
