Congressman speaks on humanity and justice

One of Maryland’s most well recognized leaders visited Montgomery College on Monday to talk about the state of humanity, justice and the voting system in today’s America.

Congressman Jamie Raskin’s speech was greeted by about 125 students from all colors, creeds and codes.

During the forum, Raskin stated that current humanitarian issues in the United States include gerrymandering and child marriage.

According to Raskin, authoritarian governments and human right abusers are actually gaining ground around the world.

He also stated the one of the most important principles behind American humanity is the separation of church and state.

“That has worked great for our country which remains perhaps the most religious western country in the world because we keep the government out of it,” said Raskin. The government would just mess it up anyway.”

Congressman Raskin also lamented the fact that millions of Americans in Puerto Rico and the District of Columbia are still not allowed to take part in most elections.
