Caribbean American group celebrates Caribbean American Heritage Month

The Montgomery County Executive’s Caribbean American Advisory Group held an open house Tuesday to ensure the county government knows the issues and needs of Caribbean Americans.

The chair of the advisory says they will continue to get the community more involved and actively working with the government. The members say they would like to keep the ethnic advisory groups going, as there will be changes next year. The group is also celebrating Caribbean American Heritage Month, and this year’s theme is power. Leaders say they will be sure their voices are heard so officials are able to act effectively to respond to the needs and concerns of Caribbean Americans living and working in the county.

“So this is a way for us to ensure that our voice is heard so I’d say one our major issues right now is getting people to join and then from there just making sure that our people are part of the county boards and commission” said Joanne Antoine, Caribbean American Advisory Group liaison.

The official Caribbean American Heritage Day will be held on June 14th, where the county executive will sign a proclamation.
