Hair salon helps fund Guatemalan school

News

As students in the four-state area are getting ready to go back to school, a popular hair salon is working to help kids worldwide.

Cartoon Cuts, a chain salon in Maryland, Virginia, Florida, Texas, and Puerto Rico is raising money to help build a school in Guatemala, and they’ve almost hit their goal of $25,000 dollars.

So far, they’ve collected nearly $20,000 dollars.

Each salon is selling pencils and construction workers’ hats to raise the final 5,000 dollars.

“We have children coming here so maybe [the parents] can relate a little bit more to feel sorry for the children that are less fortunate,” said Ashley Garland, Cartoon Cuts Manager.  “So it’s easier to kind of get it out there because we have so many kids come in every day.”

You can provide aid to students in Montgomery County as well.

The county’s Give Backpacks campaign raised enough money for more than 16,000 backpacks so far, and the collection is still open.

Ten dollars funds one backpack.
