Hagerstown Police give back to school safety tips

It’s that time of year again! Kids are back to school, and school buses are back on the roads.
Since school days bring congestion with school buses, bikes and parents, the Hagerstown Police Department would like to remind everyone to share the roads safely.
The National Safe Routes to School program said more kids are hit by cars near schools than any other location, so it’s important you familiarize yourself with your school’s pick-up procedure and maintain safe distances from buses.
“Just maintain a safe distance when you’re behind a bus,” Heather Aleshire, Hagerstown Police Department, said. “A lot of them are learning their new routes, so they might have to come to a stop quicker than normal.”
