Grant awarded to trails that will connect Ranson and Harpers Ferry

An $800,000 grant marks the beginning of connecting two Jefferson County towns.
The Federal Lands Access Program Grant was awarded to Harpers Ferry and Ranson in order to begin construction of a trail in Flowing Springs Park as well as to improve and repair the Armory Canal Trail in Harpers Ferry.
This award covers the first phase of the Harpers Ferry Canal West project that aims to connect Harpers Ferry and Ranson through a series of trails.
“I think it will definitely assist in tourism for Harpers Ferry, and that’s actually one of the big reasons that we’ve gotten support letters for the project from the town [and] from the park,” said Matt Mullenax, Executive Director, Hagerstown-Eastern Panhandle MPO. “I think it will be an asset, not only for the folks in the community, but also [it] will be a spectacular tourist attraction.”
Construction and repairs are to begin sometime next spring.
