A grand jury indicted a Gaithersburg karate instructor, accused of touching one of his female students inappropriately, according to the State’s Attorney’s Office.
Court documents show 54-year-old Frank Pugarita allegedly made inappropriate contact with a 15-year old student at his karate studio multiple times between January and June of this year.
Detectives are urging parents from the karate studio to talk to their kids about what inappropriate touching is and to contact police if their child has been victimized.
Detectives arrested Pugarita on Oct. 9.
At his bond hearing, his family and friends rallied together to show their support.
“I’ve been doing this for a while, and I’ve never seen support like he had at his original bond hearing,” said Terrence McGann, Pugarita’s attorney. “It seems that everyone who knows him thinks extremely highly of him.”
McGann says his client is adamant that he is innocent and looks forward to fighting everything in court.
A trial is expected to begin sometime in March.
