As the field of candidates for the Montgomery County Council continues to expand, one campaign platform is turning heads.
Danielle Meitiv is known as the “Free Range Mom,” after facing charges of neglect for letting her kids walk a mile alone in downtown Silver Spring.
The charges were not only dropped but helped change policy regarding unattended children.
Meitiv said it opened her eyes to how unresponsive local government can be, something she now feels inspired to change.
“I did see what it was like to be on the other side, when folks in the government aren’t listening to you,” Meitiv said.
Twenty Democrats have already announced their campaigns for the four at-large seats, according to the State Board of Elections.
The filing deadline is Feb. 27.
