Frederick County Man Sentenced to 40 Years for Child Abuse

FREDERICK COUNTY, Md. – Thurmont resident, Raymond Brittle, 40, was sentenced to 40 years in the Division of Corrections after beating a two-year-old child to death. 

In September of 2013, Robert Watkins, a two-year-old boy, was taken to the emergency room by Brittle’s former wife, Melissa Brittle, claiming that the child had fallen down the stairs. Robert died from his injuries in a Washington D.C. hospital three days later.

Brittle received the maximum sentence for his crimes after pleading guilty to first-degree child abuse resulting in death and second-degree child abuse.

Melissa Brittle was sentenced to 20 years for first-degree abuse resulting in death on March 11, 2015.

After Brittle’s release, he is required to serve five years of supervised probation and have no unsupervised contact with children under 18.
