The Humane Society of Washington County euthanized a dog Tuesday after it attacked its owner’s 15-month old son.
Police responded to the attack at 620 George Street, and the boy was taken to the hospital; his condition is currently unknown.
The owners surrendered their dog, and the case was handed over to the Humane Society of Washington County.
The Humane Society Field Services Director Crystal Mowery said the owners were aware the dog could not be adopted out.
“We don’t just go into someone’s home, pick up the dog, take it from them and euthanize it because it has bitten someone. We have policies and procedures in place. Deciding to make a decision to euthanize a dog that has bit a majority of the time comes from the owner,” Mowery said.
Humane Society officials said they believe the dog was about four-years old.
