Destination 2027 sets goal to close health inequity gap

A study released this month reveals there is as big as a 10-year gap in life expectancy among Arlington residents, according to data by a county steering committee called “Destination 2027.”

The committee’s goal is to close the health inequity gap and to push for public health policies and decisions. Destination 2027 is working to address the concerns of Arlington populations like the county’s low-income residents, the LGBTQ community and people with disabilities.

“Let’s assure for each population that they actually can have optimal health and well-being. Adopting an equity perspective will lead to better health outcomes,” said Reuben Varghese, Health Director & Public Health Division Chief for Arlington County.

Destination 2027 is also actively working on its child care initiative and affordable housing master plan.
