Although it seems most of the snow has melted away, icy roads are something motorist should still be aware of.

“You can’t tell the black ice from the wet roads a lot of the time, and they’ll hit a patch of ice, and it’s over before you know it,” said Clarke County resident, Craig Hagaman.

According to Virginia State Police, a driver lost control due to icy road conditions on Wednesday around 8:00 am causing a head on collision with another vehicle on Howellsville Road in Front Royal.

“It might not be your fault… it could be somebody else’s fault, and they slide into you …you could cause a whole lot of injury to other people,” said Clarke County resident, John Cook.

According to Warren County Fire and Rescue, five people were involved in the crash…three of them children.

Warren County officials say crews were able to quickly remove a female patient pinned inside one of the vehicles; she was then flown to Fairfax Trauma center. Police say the remaining four patients were ground transported to Warren Memorial Hospital. Virginia State Police say there were no fatalities

Deputies have not released the condition of the victims at this time.

Warren county fire and rescue say units from Warren station six, one, and ten responded and they received assistance from PHI Air Care, and Boyce station four.
