A Cumberland man who was threatening to “shoot it out” with police on Friday night was taken into custody.

Deputies with the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office said they responded to a Frostburg home on Welsh Hill Road around 10:30 p.m. for a disturbance call, when they encountered James Barnes, 33. No weapons were found on the scene, but a box of 9-millimeter ammunition was found.

He was charged with five counts of illegal possession of a shotgun and other charges, after guns were found at his Cumberland home. He was restricted from possessing firearms or ammunition.
