Comptroller Visits Hagerstown Business to Promote Tax Free Energy Weekend

HAGERSTOWN, Md. – Comptroller Peter Franchot came to Hagerstown to visit an appliance store in anticipation of Shop Maryland Energy Tax-Free weekend.

This is the third year in row that Franchot has visited Spicher’s Appliances & Electronics on Pennsylvania Avenue.

This weekend, any appliance that meets or exceeds the Energy Star requirements will be tax free.

“It is great for the environment obviously because these are energy efficient appliances but more importantly, it is great for small family owned businesses like Spicher’s, and I urge everybody in western Maryland to come in and shop at this great family owned business.”

Appliances included in the event include air conditioners, furnaces, and washer and dryers.

Currently, Maryland has a 6 percent sales tax.  The tax free event runs from February 14th to the 16^th, and the owner of Spicher’s says that this is one of the biggest weekends for sales.
