The chief deputy of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department, Gary Harmison was presented with his service weapon from Sheriff Kenny Lemaster on Thursday.
Harmison was second in command of the sheriff’s department until his recent retirement.
“I’ve always told my wife that even if I hit the lottery, I’d still come to work everyday, just because I’ve enjoyed it so much,” Harmison told WHAG after the ceremony.
Harmison said he retired – after serving the county for over 30 years — so he can continue serving those of Berkeley County.
“I filed for election on Tuesday for sheriff. I’ve served the citizens for 31 years. I want to continue, and take the next step,” Harmison said.
Retired Capt. Scott Richmond of the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department also recently announced his plans to run for Berkeley County Sheriff.
