The Chambersburg Council authorized the continuation of the contract they had in place with Waste Management for another year.
Towards the end of 2017, there was some friction between the two parties. Waste Management contacted restaurants and businesses in the Borough saying they would no longer collect glass. The Borough responded threatening to sue Waste Management. The company eventually apologized and upheld their agreement, and Borough officials say Waste Management plays an important role in the Borough.
“Quite frankly, we’ll be looking for somebody who will be doing that because I think we’re pretty well committed with recycling as much as we possibly can and maybe expand if we can,” said Allen Coffman, Borough council.
The original contract agreement went until January of 2019 and now the contract extension goes until January of 2020.
