Boonsboro Hopes to Bring Community Pool and Rec Center to Shafer Park

News

BOONSBORO, Md.- Town council members are planning to bring a pool and recreation center to Boonsboro after recently organizing a committe of ten members to help make it possible.

“The residents that live in south county can go up to north Hagerstown to the YMCA, or they can go into West Virginia to swim,” said Brigitte Schmidt, a Boonsboro councilwoman. “There isn’t a local community center for us. We’re looking for this not to be just a Boonsboro pool, but for this to be something that would serve all the residents of south Washington County.”

The committee has recently sent out survey forms to residents of Boonsboro, Keedysville, Sharpsburg and Rohrersville. Over 5,000 forms were sent out through the mail and an additional 430 responses came online.

“The survey and feasibility analysis is being funded by the Nora Roberts foundation,” Schmidt said. “They gave the town a $25,000 grant for us to survey and determine if the community would support this pool.”

The town is also looking at what the pool would offer whether it’s hydrotherapy for older residents, or just a place to bring the kids during the summer.

Public meetings will be held starting March 22nd when the survey results will be announced. For more information on pool and recreation proposal and to fill out a survey online, click here.
