Augustoberfest kicks off in downtown Hagerstown

Hagerstown has officially tapped the keg and started the celebration of their 22nd annual German heritage festival.

Augustoberfest celebrates the German background of Hagerstown with Bavarian food, music and dancing. Saturday, Mayor Bob Bruchey and other officials performed the official keg tapping and gave remarks to kick off the two-day festival. People from all over are invited to join in the fun.

“We bring in people from all over the country so it’s very important that it’s a successful event…and it has been for 22 years,” said Mayor Bruchey.

The event benefits the AugustOberfest Charitable Foundation that supports scholarships and educational programs for Hagerstown’s sister city Wesel, Germany.
