GAITHERSBURG, Md. (WDVM) — Update (10:35 a.m.): 10 people have been sent to the hospital after an early morning fire in Gaithersburg.
Four adults and two children were taken to the hospital early Friday morning after a fire started in the living room of an apartment in the Cider Mills Apartment complex.
Pete Piringer, the public information officer for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services, tweeted that about 75 firefighters were called to the scene to put out the fire.
Montgomery County fire and rescue crews were called to the scene around 5:30 am at the Cider Mill Apartments on the 18,200 block of Lost Knife Circle in Montgomery Village. Six adults and four children were taken to the hospital, one is being treated for burns, but none of their injuries are life threatening. Officials say the fire started in the living room in one of the units on the third floor.
“They did have a pretty heavy fire condition, people were evacuating and they had some patients that appeared to be injured so of course they did call for some reinforcements which eventually brought about 75 firefighters to the scene,” said Pete Piringer, Montgomery County Fire & Rescue.
45 people have been displaced. The cause is still under investigation.
