Maryland State Police have charged a 22-year old Allegany County man with the murder of his infant daughter.
Kyle Poindexter, of Cresaptown, was taken into custody on Saturday after the death of his two-month old daughter, Avery Poindexter.
Troopers said the child was taken to Western Maryland Regional Health Center on Friday after the suspect called his neighbors, saying he needed help because the baby stopped breathing. Medics observed bruises on her head and face, and notified police.
The child’s body was taken to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office in Baltimore, where doctors ruled that the cause of death was a head injury.
Poindexter faces a slew of charges, including second-degree murder, first-degree assault and reckless endangerment. He is being held at the Allegany County Detention Center on a $800,000 bond.
